SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) - Police spent their Labor Day investigating a homicide in Sheffield.

A man was found dead in a home on the 1700 block of 9th Avenue around 10 a.m. Monday.

Investigators found the house had been set on fire and 63-year-old George Henry Morris Sr. was dead inside.

He'd apparently been stabbed several times. Morris lived at the residence.

A close friend of the family described Morris as a good family man.

"All the kids from the community would come over and he would give them money, do things for them, invite them into his house," said Nekedria Decatur. "He was not a bad person. He was a lovable person."

According to the coroner's office, Morris' body is at the forensics lab in Huntsville for an autopsy.
