People who live in a Huntsville apartment complex need a new place to stay after fire damaged their apartment building early Thursday morning.

The fire started just after midnight at the Chasewood Village apartments on Chasewood Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting from the roof of the two-story building. They had to cut holes in the roof to get the fire out.

A woman who lives in the building said she woke up to someone knocking on her door. When she got outside, she saw the flames on the roof.

Firefighters evacuated the building.

No one was hurt, but people living in 16 units have been displaced. There's no exact number yet on how many people are affected. Investigators say the units themselves appear to have no fire damage, but they may have smoke and water damage.

Investigators say the fire appears to have started in a wall near a balcony. An electrical inspector will have to look at the building before an official cause can be determined.
