NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) - On Monday, Governor Robert Bentley will be in Cullman to celebrate the grand opening of the Rehau Automotive Plant expansion. The expansion will develop and produce bumpers for Mercedes Benz vehicles. Rehau's expansion is expected to create about 200 new jobs. Those 200 jobs are just the latest in a business boom in the Tennessee Valley.
From Remington to Whole Foods, businesses have announced plans to expand to the Rocket City. Over the last six months, at least four major corporations made the decision to expand to Huntsville. In total, nearly 5,000 jobs will be coming to the Huntsville area over the next couple of years.
In December, Boeing announced it was opening a new technology and research center bringing 300 to 400 jobs with it. Then in January, GE made the call to expand its Huntsville plant and add 50 jobs there. Remington is the most noticeable of the bunch. In February, the company announced it was coming to the Rocket City and bringing 2,000 jobs with it. We also just got the details of a merchants walk development right off of Bob Wallace that will include a Whole Foods and about 300 new jobs.
A new, $170 million development called the Constellation Project will also finally be built in Huntsville. It'll be near the downtown area and include stores, apartments, and even a hotel. All of that could bring about 2,000 jobs to the area.
All of these projects are in the beginning stages, so hiring will likely take place over a couple of years.
