Alabama Farm and Poultry Expo held in Boaz
BOAZ, AL (WAFF) - In North Alabama, poultry is king. The Alabama Farm and Poultry Expo was held on the weekend of April 11.
If it had anything to do with the farm, the chicken, or the egg, it was there. For people who attended, they found they might actually learn something.
The Alabama Farm and Poultry Expo kicked off at the Boaz VFW Fairgrounds Friday morning at 9. It was the first ever and featured plenty of good food, music, barbeque cooking contests, and children's activities. It also showcased the area's agricultural industry.
Different farm and tractors exhibits were on display, as well as some common and not so common animals. One vendor said he specialized in sawdust.
"Primarily we do chicken farms, and that helps to keep the houses dry and keep the poultry in good health," said Rayburn Bright, owner of Bright Services.
"We just thought it would be fitting to have a festival like this that would sort of pay tribute to the poultry industry as well as our farming industry here that we have here in Marshall county," said Peggie Haney of the Boaz Chamber of Commerce.
The event ran until 9 p.m. Friday night, and will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
