ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Athens police arrested two people on animal cruelty charges Thursday.

The department received a call from the owner of a residence on the 2100 block of Lindsay Lane. The owner said the renters had moved out, and during an inspection of the residence two dogs were found dead.

According to investigators, the animals had not been fed, given water, or taken care of in several days. The owners were interviewed and claimed they intended to go back and get the animals, but they didn't have a car so they never did.

Warrants were issued for Christopher and Shannon Adkins for cruelty to animals. They were both arrested Thursday on those charges.
