HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Trinity United Methodist Church's Young Ambassadors gave a status report to the congregation via Skype. Forty adults and young people from the church spent spring break in the Dominican Republic on a trip that was a very different kind of fun in the sun.
"They're building buildings, a church, latrines, they're doing some mission work with the children," said Pat Sanders, father of one of the missionaries.
The trips are put together through the Rivers of the World Mission Group and organizers said they achieve amazing things in only one week of spring break, for the people of the Dominican Republic, but also for the young missionaries themselves.
"Their live are always changed," said Amy McBroom, Director of Program Ministries. "They experience things that usually they've never experienced before. The level of poverty is very dire. The types of culture and the environment can be harsh, so it's a real difference from what they're used to living."
