ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Athens police arrested a man who said hewhipped his child over taking a laptop.
Police investigated a call about a child thathad possibly been beaten by his father. The person who called told officers a7-year-old child had marks on his back and neck from being whipped.
Officers spoke to the child, who told themhis father had whipped him. The father told officers he whipped the childbecause he took a laptop computer and three compact discs.
Manuel Ambrosio was arrested and charged withtorture/willful abuse of a child.
He was taken to the county jail, where it wasdetermined Ambrosio had given police a false name during the investigation. Hewas also charged with giving a false name to law enforcement.
The Limestone County DHR assisted police inthe investigation.
