Woman dead, man injured after incident at south Huntsville home
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville police confirm a woman is dead and a man was found unconscious at a south Huntsville home Monday morning.
Huntsville police set up a perimeter in the area of Thornmor Drive and Magna Carta Place. They responded to the home in English Village where a man was threatening suicide at 9:09 a.m.
Officers set up a staging area for the media several blocks away from a home on Thornmor. Huntsville Police cordoned off the area and the SWAT was on scene. A Huntsville Police spokesperson said they deployed the extra resources as a precaution.
Police said they had to force their way inside the home. Authorities initially said two people were found seriously injured at the house. They later confirmed that one woman was dead at the home and a man was found unconscious.
A HEMSI ambulance with three patrol cars following left the scene around 11:30 a.m. In the hours since the initial call, animal control officers entered the house and came out with several cages.
Neighbors said they woke to find officers and SWAT team members in their driveways. Samantha Brown lives a few doors down from the crime scene. She said she was on the way to school and saw about 20-30 police cars. "I never thought anything like this would ever happen," she said upon learning about what investigators found. "It is crazy. It's always been a really nice neighborhood. Nothing like this ever happens here."
Investigators have not released the names of the victims or the cause of the woman's death.
