HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Nine North Alabama high schools are moving up to a new class.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association approved an updated seven class system for the next two years. The move is one that has been needed for some time. Many coaches in the state and North Alabama expected the move.
Bob Jones, Buckhorn, Grissom, Hazel Green, Huntsville, James Clemens and Sparkman will join Gadsden City as the new 7A Region 4 schools.
The shake-up causes a much different looking Class 6A. For football only, the new Class 6A Region 8 includes Athens, Austin, Cullman, Decatur, Florence, Hartselle and Muscle Shoals.
The new Class 6A Region 7 includes Albertville, Arab, Brewer, Lee, Southside, Scottsboro and Fort Payne.
