Vina teacher resigns amid sexual misconduct investigation

VINA, AL (WAFF) - A former Vina schoolteacher who admitted to having sexual contact with a student is no longer with the school system.
Franklin County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ralton Baker confirmed Thursday night that Sonny Tibbs tendered his resignation at the board meeting. Tibbs had been on paid suspension.
Tibbs was arrested Nov. 8 after investigators said the physical education teacher admitted to having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female student.
A preliminary hearing for Tibbs is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.
