GURLEY, AL (WAFF) - Madison County Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect in a Monday night shooting that killed a man.

It happened around 9:15 p.m. on Hurricane Creek Road in Gurley, at a house near Wilbourn Drive.

Brent Patterson, Criminal Investigator with the Madison County Sheriff's Office, said deputies went to the house on a shots fired call. When they arrived, they saw the victim, 50-year-old Robert Earl Clark, dead inside the home.

They arrested Robert Edwin Walker and charged him with murder.

Gurley residents said it didn't take long for news of the shooting to spread. Daniel Caro knew Robert Walker. He said they would talk practically every day when they ran into each other at a local gas station.

"I was completely shocked," he said. "I see him up at the store every day. He's kind of a loner. He walks alone a lot, but I had no idea. I've never seen any signs of aggression from him. He minded his own business."

Investigators are not commenting on a motive for the murder, but Patterson said the shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute.

"There's a lot that's going to take place with this investigation," said Patterson.

Gurley residents say that a lot of people knew Walker around the town as Bobby.  Our attempts to find someone who knew the victim, Robert Clark, were unsuccessful.
