HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The city of Huntsville is working to clear out a popular spot for homeless people to gather.
The location is underneath the ramps at I-565 and Memorial Parkway. The city is working to find a new place for the homeless to go, whether that be with relatives or elsewhere.
In the past, the location under the bridge has been a hazard. The Alabama Department of Transportation has been working with Huntsville officials in this task.
Alabama Department of Transportation's Johnny Harris said, "It's our responsibility as the State Department of Transportation to ensure the safety of the motoring public by making sure that we can access all the areas to inspect our bridges and our structures in a timely manner."
According to officials the process could take weeks or months, but once the area is clear, no one will be allowed to camp there again.
