TONEY, AL (WAFF) - A visit to the dentist's office will be easier for low-income students when a dental clinic opens at Madison Cross Roads Elementary School in January.
HEALS Inc., which provides medical and dental services at local schools to low-income children, held a ground-breaking ceremony Thursday to mark the occasion. HEALS (Health Establishments At Local Schools) will renovate a trailer for the clinic, its second dental clinic at a school. The other clinic, as well as a medical clinic, is at Martin Luther King Elementary School in Huntsville. Other HEALS medical clinics are at Morris Elementary and University Place Elementary, both in Huntsville.
The Toney school, which also has a HEALS medical clinic, is the only site in the county with a HEALS clinic. The trailer will also house an optometry clinic.
School principal Mitzi Dennis said parents have been asking about the new clinic.
"They all ask 'When will it open?'" she said. "They're excited about it opening so their (children) will be able to receive dental care."
