HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville Police are working to keep you safe this Fourth of July holiday. Be prepared to see them at safety checkpoints throughout the city.

Officers with the DUI Task Force said they'll be checking for more than just drunk drivers. They will be looking for equipment, license and insurance violations as well. Officers said if you are caught driving drunk, honesty is the best policy. "If you have been caught drinking, be forthright," said Sgt. Michael Johnson. "If you have been drinking, they're going to know it, and the worst thing you can do is lie about it. Let them determine if you're under the influence."

"The best thing you can do is call someone who hasn't been drinking or get a cab to take you home," said Sabin Troncone of the DUI Task Force.

Police also want to remind you that fireworks are illegal inside city limits. Officers will confiscate fireworks if they catch you with them, and they can issue citations.
