HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The ex-husband of former Hampton Cove principal Fillis McGhee was found shot to death in the Hampton Ridge subdivision neighborhood Friday night.

Huntsville Police officers responded the city's first homicide of 2013 around 11 p.m. Friday at 7096 Pale Dawn Place.

When they arrived, they found the body of Alonzo McGhee, 44, laying in the street. Neighbors said he served as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army.

A neighbor said McGhee was pulling out of his driveway when someone shot into the driver side of the car. McGhee got out of the car, and the car rolled into a neighbor's yard.

The neighbor came outside to see what was going on and saw someone running from the scene.

Police said McGhee had been shot multiple times. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
