Wardynski to discuss expanding Pre-K education for more students

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - School leaders across Alabama will discuss expanding pre-K education on Thursday.

Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski will kick-off the campaign to give quality pre-pre-K education access to all four-year-olds over the next decade.

School leaders in Mobile, Montgomery and Birmingham are also taking part in the campaign on Thursday.

The Alabama School Readiness Alliance is organizing the effort, which aims to improve voluntary pre-K programs for every child in the state.

More specifically, the push is for the First Class pre-K program that is hailed as one of the best in the nation.

Only six percent of Alabama's four-year-olds have access to the program, according to the ASRA but school leaders want to change that.

Dr. Wardynski will visit James Dawson Elementary at 10 a.m. on Thursday to discuss the campaign.

Don Nalley of Beason & Nalley, the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and Alabama Office of School Readiness Director Jan Hume will join the superintendent.
