MOULTON, AL (WAFF) - A Moulton police officer has been arrested.
Moulton Police Chief Lyndon McWharter confirmed Mitchell Breland was arrested Thursday morning.
Breland has been suspended with pay after Moulton Police found out he was being investigated by DHR for child abuse.
McWharter said he was disappointed about the arrest but if an officer is convicted, he needs to face the consequences.
"Our officer's job is to enforce the law and any time there is a violation of law and an investigation pending for a violation of law with an officer it's really disheartening, it's disappointing for us and the whole department is disappointed in this," said McWharter.
Breland has been charged with two counts of willful abuse of a child.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is also looking into the case.
Breland resigned from the Decatur Police after he was arrested for domestic violence. Those charges were later dropped.
