MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Morgan County Sheriff's Deputies arrested one man Saturday night after speeding and being caught with drugs.

Authorities attempted to stop 19-year-old Jackie Barnett, but he took off from the deputies and hid behind the Valhermoso Springs Post Office. The deputies located a syringe with blood and drug residue inside Barnett's car.

Deputies then later discovered components consistent with the manufacturing process of methamphetamine. Authorities said the chemicals found subsequently leaked from their containers and caused a fire hazard; a U.S. Postal Inspector was called to shut down the office and secure the area.

Authorities also found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs in connection with Barnett.

Barnett is currently in the Morgan County Jail, and faces possible federal charges because the offense occurred on federal property.
