DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A man is in custody after a Decatur police chase.

Officers said they attempted to pull Ron Jones over when they ran his license plate, and it didn't match his car. Police said he accelerated and clipped another car pulling out of the mall on Danville Road. The victim's SUV went over the curb and into the grass.

"As is as turning, I ended up getting hit. I felt the hit and ended up on the side where my car jumped the curve," said Vickie Uffenorde, driver of the SUV. "I feel fortunate that people came right away. That people got out of their cars and stayed to make sure I was okay."

When Jones' vehicle came to a stop, he attempted to flee.

"I looked in my rear view and saw him take off down towards Wally World," said witness Kristen Hight.

When an officer caught up with him, he turned on the officer and attempted to fight. The officer had to use a stun gun on him.

Officers also said that when he exited the vehicle, he attempted to throw away a bag of marijuana.

Jones was arrested and charged with four outstanding warrants for failure to appear, possession of marijuana second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, attempting to flee and elude, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, running a red light, switched tag, driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.

No injuries were reported.
