HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A defense contractor and soldier wounded overseas received a patriotic welcome home.

Sgt. Colin Erwin is with the 203rd MP Alabama Army National Guard.

He was working as a C-Ram Operator in Afghanistan through Strategic Defense Solutions when a rocket hit the gym where he was working out.

'Its really surreal. I didn't expect this big of a turn out. I'm really glad to have so many friends and family support me,' said Sgt. Colin Erwin.

Members of The Patriot Guard were there to escort Sgt. Colin's and his family home.

Madison Fire and Rescue set up ladder trucks on County Line road to show their appreciation to Sgt. Erwin.

Erwin's mother, Karen Russo says she's glad he's alive and back home.

'He is the most awesome son. He's very independent always wanted it his way. Heart of gold,' said Karen Russo.

Colin is home for good.

He has a 10 month old son and plans to marry his fiance soon.
