HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture is warning individuals and businesses about a new scam.

USDA officials says someone is faxing letters on behalf of the department and asking for personal information.

The letters bear a USDA logo and is signed by "Frank Rutenberg." The letters went out to individuals and businesses in four states, including Alabama, but the USDA says they're fake.

Officials are working the Inspector General on this investigation.
