HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Director of Marshall Space Flight Center, Robert Lightfoot, has been named Acting Associate Administrator for NASA.

He will begin his new job on March 5th. In his new position, Lightfoot will be the agency's highest ranking civil servant.

Gene Goldman who is the Deputy Director at Marshall Space Flight Center will now serve as Acting director for MSFC.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle congratulated Lightfoot on his new leadership role in NASA.

"Robert has been an asset to the Marshall Space Flight Center, and I know he will continue to advocate for Huntsville," said Mayor Battle. "Gene Goldman is a strong leader in our community and has worked on NASA issues with us in the past, and we look forward to deepening that relationship."

"As for the team we have their at marshall i'm not real worried about how they're going to do while i'm up in d.c. My job mainly is to stay out of their way and let them do what they're set to do just like every other center and mission director we have at the agency," said Lightfoot.
