DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A man is arrested and charged with robbery after having an altercation with an off-duty sheriff's deputy.
On December 24th, 2011, a Decatur Police officer working as off-duty police security for Walmart on Spring Avenue was alerted to a disturbance near one of the entrances and responded.
He arrived and saw a man, later identified as Zachary Chase Dial, fighting with another man who identified himself as an off-duty Lawrence County Sheriff's deputy.
The deputy had witnessed Dial attempting to steal several items from Walmart and attempted to stop Dial as he was leaving the store. Dial began resisting the efforts of the Deputy, and an altercation ensued.
Dial was taken into custody after he broke free from the deputy and a short foot chase ended near the customer service center.
Dial was arrested and charged with robbery in the third degree. He was booked into the Decatur City Jail and was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
