MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Priceville Police officers arrested Morgan County Community Corrections Officer Darby Grantland while he worked at the Morgan County Courthouse on several counts of theft, including two felony counts. The County Commission notified him he had been terminated by Thursday afternoon.
Investigators said Grantland stole guns and an iPad, among other items, from Tucker's Grocery and Pawn Shop along Alabama Highway 67.
County Commission Chairman Ray Long said he met with Grantland Thursday in jail, and said firing him is the right thing to do.
"He admitted that he'd been involved in the illegal acts. So, we know that there is no doubt. There's not a question if he done it. He's admitted that he has done it. It's a bad situation," Long said.
"I know the family well, and I hate this for the family. It's never a good time for something like this to happen. But, during the holiday season, it definitely makes it worse," he added.
Grantland is charged with four theft counts in all. He is free after posting $5,600 dollar bail at the Morgan County Jail.
