DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Former Alabama football player now Oakland Raiders standout Rolando McClain had his Alabama pistol permit pulled.
McClain was arrested last month on charges of third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment, and discharging a firearm in the city limits of Decatur. Christian Tapscott filed the charges against McClain.
McClain can no longer carry a concealed weapon in Alabama since his permit has been rendered invalid.
"Basically that is standard procedure when someone is involved in a shooting which may be an act of violence considered by law enforcement to be a dangerous situation," said Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin.
"I do not feel he would get any special treatment simply because of his status as a pro athlete," said Decatur attorney Brian Oakes. "I don't believe you will see that come out of court."
Sheriff Franklin said McClain can continue to carry a pistol while he awaits trial. He does not have the privilege of carrying a weapon concealed in Alabama.
