Arrest made in Jackson County moonshine bust

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Jackson county authorities made one of their largest moonshine finds in recent decades.

The bust happened late Wednesday afternoon off Highway 65 in the Estille Fork community.

Jackson county investigators and ABC agents found 44 gallons of homemade moonshine.

They later arrested 46-year-old Joenell Marie Craig, of Estillfork. Craig is charged with possession of illegally manufactured alcoholic beverages, which is a misdemeanor. She has been released and ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Investigators say they expected to make more arrests in this case.

Sheriff Chuck Phillips says they were acting on a tip and that's when they found the moonshine and parts of a still used to make it.

The Sheriff says it's not often they find so much moonshine, and finding a still is even more rare.

"The last still that I actually worked and found was in 1988. We found a lot of homemade moonshine during the years but as far as the stills themselves, they're rare," said Sheriff Phillips.
