The U.S. Space & Rocket Center laid off 12 people to bring its budget in line with expenses.
CEO Dr. Deborah Barnhart announced that the center notified a handful of employees of the layoffs Friday.
Dr. Barnhart says the center is cutting about $500,000 in salaries and related expenses. The cuts come from the Space Center's operating budget.
Full time layoffs were in food service, merchandising, museum & camp operations and special events.
The Space Center moved seven full time positions to either part time or temporary. Those positions were in finance, museum operations, Special Events, medical services and security.
Dr. Barnhart says the center will also save money by not filling recently vacated positions with full time employees. The center currently has around 100 full time workers.
