Huntsville Police cadets now know what it's like to get a big dose of pepper spray.
Each of the cadets took a big shot of the nasty stuff Friday, square in the eyes.
The training involves fighting through the burn, engaging in simulated combat, then getting on the ground and cuffing the suspect.
"It's important for them to know what they're carrying and experience with it… You might have out in the field, when applying it, over spray in windy conditions. Or you may have another officer spray you, and you may have suspect spray you… You just never know… and you need to know how to fight through it," said Lt. Darryl Lawson, the Director of Training.
The 51st Huntsville Police Academy is the largest class ever.
This is week four of the eighteen week test for the 39 cadets.
