ROGERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Massachusetts man walking thousands of miles across the United States to bring awareness to multiple sclerosis made his way through the Tennessee Valley.

26-year-old Stephen Homsey of Winchester started walking 68 days ago from Massachusetts.

His destination is to walk all the way to San Diego, California. So far, he's walked over 1,200 miles.

After walking through nine states, Homsey arrived in Huntsville on Monday and is currently in Rogerville.

He said he's walking for MS because he fell off a building in 2009 and was paralyzed for two months.

It took him six months to learn how to walk again.

"It kind of gave you this short glimpse of what it would be like to have everything that you could once do taken from you and then you can't do anything, you know your lifestyle has changed," said Homsey.

Homsey said he will continue on through Mississippi to Tennessee and take route 40 the rest of the way to San Diego.
