Animals from Alabama are up for adoption in New York.

Many four-legged friends were left homeless after the tornadoes.

Close to 80 animals arrived in New York this morning.

Emergency rescue teams deployed to Alabama took the animals to long island from overflowing shelters in some areas.

They brought back 25 dogs, 30 puppies, 23 kittens in a mobile rescue unit.

"Local shelters were becoming overwhelmed with pets that were displaced and needed to come into these shelters and now their shelters were becoming overcrowded," said Slyvia Ottaka from the North Shore Animal League.

The shelter hopes to put the animals up for adoption soon.
