Phil Campbell devastated by tornado

PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) - Franklin County authorities have confirmed at least 26 deaths in the town of Phil Campbell.

The National Guard was dispatched to the area to help with the clean up. WAFF 48 News Reporter Nick Lough said it looks like a bomb went off.

Phil Campbell school was destroyed in the storm. Superintendent of Franklin County said school officials will meet next week to decide where to hold classes for the remainder of the year.

Several students from the school are still missing after the tornado moved through the area.

Ambulance are in the area searching for storm victims and taking them to area hospitals.

People wishing to donate to the victims of the Phil Campbell tornado can drop off donations at the Salvation Army in Florence. Highland Park Church of Christ in Muscle Shoals is also taking donations.

About 13 miles away in Hackleburg, officials confirmed 27 fatalities. Crews there are also searching for more victims.
