HAZEL GREEN, AL (WAFF) - The pit bull that attacked a Madison County woman was euthanized Tuesday morning.
Madison County animal control officials said the dog's body will be sent off for testing.
Carolyn Hopkins was attacked by her neighbor's pit bull Tuesday, July 12.
Hopkins said she and a friend were walking by a neighbor's house when the dog ran off the porch and attacked her.
Hopkins is now calling on county leadership to pass an ordinance to protect the community from potentially dangerous dogs.
There is technically no leash law in Madison County, and Animal Control Director Mike Fritz believes it would be hard to enforce.
"In rural areas, it would be difficult for a man to work livestock with a dog on a leash. You know hunting dogs and those sorts of things as well," said Fritz.
Hopkins said she is still planning to attend the next County Commission meeting to see what can be done.
