DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Representatives from the Alabama Department of Public Health and Decatur-Morgan Hospital joined Decatur Council President Jacob Ladner to give an update on COVID-19 in the city.

As of Today, there have been more than 18,00 COVID cases in the Decatur area. That is a 5% increase from the data released last week, according to health officials.

Decatur-Morgan Hospital has 74 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Out of those patients, 10 are in the ICU and on ventilators. Only 12 patients are vaccinated, 62 are not. Just one person in the ICU is vaccinated compared to the nine others who are not.

Just over 24,000 people are considered fully vaccinated in Morgan County. Health Leaders say this is an increase in last week’s vaccine rates. This is a good sign, according to them.

The press conference was at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
