At 8:45 a.m. on July 22, Korte Pierre Watkins surrendered to law enforcement outside of a home on Throntons Way Circle. The 29-year-old was wanted by Decatur Police on seven charges including:

  • Rape
  • Sodomy
  • Electronic solicitation
  • Traveling to meet a child for a sex act
  • Three counts of obscene matter

Watkins is being picked up by Decatur Police to be transported to the Morgan County Jail.

HPD officers attempted to serve the arrest warrants on Watkins around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, but he locked himself inside his family member’s home and refused to make contact with officers. Officers monitored the home overnight.

The family returned to their home late Wednesday evening and were able to get Watkins to surrender peacefully this morning.

On May 18, Decatur Police received a report that an adult male had been communicating online with a child and had made arrangements to meet the child in person. Detectives say they identified Watkins, a registered sex offender from Huntsville, as the suspect and learned he traveled to Decatur and engaged in an unlawful sex act with the child.

According to the DPD report, Watkins was found to be in possession of multiple visual depictions of a separate child victim engaged in nudity. Warrants for the above charges were obtained as a result of the investigation.

He was booked into the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a total bond of $695,000.00
