City leaders break ground on Shops of Scottsboro Shopping Center
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - There was a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for a new shopping center in Scottsboro.
The new development has been in the works for six years.
Publix will anchor the Shops of Scottsboro at the corner of Highway 72 and Highway 35.
Scottsboro Mayor Jim McCamy said it was an exciting day and is looking forward to economic growth and job opportunities the new shopping center will bring to the area.
“You’re looking at over 80,000 square feet of retail space, over 100 jobs, and that’s the number we are working off of at this point, and that’s going to have a huge economic impact not just here but in Jackson County, and that’s what’s important. When you get somebody like Publix and the others coming in as tenants that focus a lot of attention of where we need to see the attention,” said McCamy.
White Development Company will negotiate with other retailers to be located inside the building.
It could include TJ Maxx, Pet Depot, Title Wave Car Wash, and a National Bank.
Developers said Publix is expected to open next August.
