HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Sparkman Middle School teachers made a special appearance on the Today Show Tuesday morning!
Teachers from the school were featured on the Today Show Virtual Plaza during a Teacher Appreciation Week celebration.
The idea all started with Sparkman Middle School teacher Stephenie Smith. Smith said she thought the Virtual Plaza would be a great way to recognize teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. She reached out to the Today Show with her idea and got a call from a Today Show producer last week.
”They said they loved the idea and they asked the Sparkman Middle School to be the kickoff for the Teacher Appreciation Week montage that they’re going to be featuring on Tuesdays show,” Smith said.
Smith said she was happy the Today Show liked her idea.
“It was really cool to think that here in Alabama I had an idea that they recognized in New York City as a quality idea and they would want to feature our teachers,” she said.
After such a long year, Smith said she’s glad the community will get to see their teachers recognized for all of their hard work.
“We have just been working so hard, collaborating and innovating to work through the challenges presented by COVID,” Smith said. “Teachers are trying to keep their students engaged on learning, they’re checking in on students in their social and emotional wellness and then they’re also just being chearleaders for students who may just be struggling.”
