FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - For the second year in a row, the Shoals Earth Day fest is canceled.
According to our news partners at the Times Daily, organizers decided to cancel once again because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Event board members say they do not want to be responsible for holding an event that would promote large gatherings. They hope this is the last time COVID-19 will force them to cancel and are excited about next year’s event.
“The board agreed to continue the same cautionary actions from the precautions from the previous year because we’re still in a pandemic,” said Nancy Muse president of Shoals Earth Month.
She said Gov. Kay Ivey’s mask mandate is not followed by all people, and now that the order is set to expire on April 9, the group didn’t want to be responsible for hosting an event which would bring people together in large numbers.
