HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - In honor of International Women’s Day, women leaders in Huntsville gathered together in the community to honor the 19th Amendment mural.
The Women’s Business Council received a plaque for sponsoring the downtown mural honoring women. The mural was designed in remembrance of women’s suffrage.
The Women’s Economic Development Council, along with other community organizations, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment with a community mural.
The group partnered with Huntsville Arts to make this all happen so today they are putting the icing on the cake with a proclamation.
“WEDC’s mural ‘This Girl Can’ continues to not only inspire change and growth in Huntsville and Madison County, but continues to impact, champion and empower each of us to unite and create dialogue through our differences,” said Camillia King-Stanley, WEDC president. “We are happy to create a space where people can honor the path forged by so many women before us.”
“I’m very emotional, and to do it in front of the mural with all these women, and organizations. The supportive ladies that have helped each other through, it’s very emotional and I’m proud, very proud to be apart of this,” said WBC member Alice Lessmann.
