FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WAFF) - It’s been a rough few weeks for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, but the department is powering through to keep our streets safe.
While, mourning the loss of one of their own, Lt. Jeff Bain, who died from COVID-19 earlier this week.
We are told there are also nine other people out due to the virus.
And through all of this the department has made 18-drug related arrests in the last three weeks.
Sheriff Nick Welden tells us they’ve taken roughly $20,000 worth of illegal narcotics off the streets.
Welden says he couldn’t be prouder of how his team is pulling together.
“With the holidays, the pandemic going on, and the loss of Lt. Bain. I think our people have really stepped up in the plate. We’re very fortunate to know we have that caliber of men and women on the front lines for the citizens of DeKalb County,” Welden said.
Sheriff Welden says he also wants to thank everyone who has showed support for the department during this time.
