Decatur police say escaped prisoner back in custody

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - A man who was arrested in Decatur and escaped from police the same day has now been recaptured, according to police.

Mario Kellogg was arrested on January 5 in connection to a shooting in December that injured a bystander and a dog.

While on the way to a local hospital to be examined for a preexisting condition on the same day, Kellogg escaped.

On January 8, Mario Kellogg and Brittany Diane Orr, a suspected assistant in the escape, were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals unit and the Decatur Police Department in Decatur.

Kellogg is charged with first degree assault, animal cruelty and third degree escape. He is being held at the Morgan County Jail with bond set at $40,300.

Orr is charged with third degree escape and was taken to Morgan County Jail with bond set at $20,000.
