MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents of an ongoing phone scam on Thursday.

According to Chief Steve Guthrie, a person identifying themselves as Deputy Mark Andrew has been placing phone calls to people asking for money transfers to avoid be arrested on past warrants.

The suspect is instructing victims to make the transfers through Dollar General and Walmart locations.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reiterated that a real law enforcement officer will never contact you requesting monetary wire transfers.

If you receive one of these calls simply hang up and notify the Sheriff’s Office at (256) 582-2034.
