With thousands of poinsettias and millions of lights, the holiday prep at this hotel begins months in advance.

That’s four four million lights, to be exact. The hard work certainly pays off as visitors walk in and see the sight for themselves.

“I have four horticulturalists that start hanging up the Christmas lights outside in July. It’s just like you would at your own home, wrapping each individual branch. We put the trees in netting and then zip tie lights to them. It’s very detailed work, but in the end it’s extravagant,” said Chief Engineer of Horticulture, Megan McDugald.

Visitors can view all of the wonderful sights by enjoying a riverboat tour, or carriage ride through the grand hotel. Experience the four million lights on display from any point of view.

“That’s the favorite part is seeing people’s expressions as they come in the door. Just the awe and the ‘I didn’t even know this was here.’ We also have a horticulture self-guided tour that people can take throughout the resort, and it highlights some of the Christmas plants that we have. So, we have the Norfolk Island Pine that’s right behind us, and of course the poinsettias!” said McDugald. “We have the traditional red, but we also have burgundy ones, marble, whites, even some orange colored.”
