HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - One man is dead following an officer involved shooting in South Huntsville.
According to Huntsville Police Lt. Jesse Sumlin, HPD officers responded to a 911 call on Edinburgh Dr. around 10:30 Friday night.
When officers got there, they were confronted by 57-year-old Alberto Rivas, who pointed a handgun at them. One officer fired his gun, hitting Rivas.
Rivas was immediately taken to Huntsville Hospital, but later died from his injuries.
Sumlin said the officer involved is now in an administrative role until the investigation is complete and has been reviewed by a Incident Review Board to ensure that there were no violations of policy.
Sumlin said the Madison County District Attorneys Office will also review the investigation to ensure that there were no violations of law.
