Huntsville officials update COVID-19 latest on Monday

Monday's Huntsville COVID-19 update

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville and Madison county leaders held a press briefing at noon on Monday.

The briefing was hosted by Huntsville-Madison EMA Director Jeff Birdwell.

David Spillers of Huntsville Hospital said the system as a whole has 115 COVID-19 inpatients.

“We have 44 in Madison county. Also, 20 of the 115 are in Decatur.”

“The average age of admission continues to be in their mid-50s. Most of them have some pre-existing condition as well.”

“We have a 16-year-old on a ventilator in the ICU.”

“We cannot let our guard down coming into the Fourth of July weekend.”

Chairman Dale Strong of the Madison County Commission commented on the current status of COVID-19 across the area.

“Almost half of the cases we have seen in Madison county have come in the last 14 days.”
