Madison county officials update COVID-19 latest

Friday's Huntsville COVID-19 update

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville and Madison county leaders held a press briefing at noon on Friday.

Dr. Karen Landers from the Alabama Department of Public Health spoke first about recovery numbers now being provided on their dashboard.

“The term recovered is not clearly defined by any body. This is why our weekly number is listed as ‘presumed recovered’ on the dashboard.”

“Every case of COVID-19 in Alabama is investigated by the Alabama Department of Public Health. We are contact tracing as well.”

“We are very early in the process of contact tracing so we will bring you more when we start seeing outcomes.”

Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong continues to urge social distancing as more things reopen in our area.

“No one single act of prevention will stop this pandemic. It will take a combination of everything we have discussed - social distancing, hand washing, and staying home when you can.”

“No matter the conditions, we will not accept the unemployment rate as it stands. All of your local officials will work to correct this.”

“We want to get our economy moving again.”

“Together we will make north Alabama something special.”

Officials will not hold an update on Monday, May 25. The next press briefing will be held on Wednesday, May 27.
