Wintry mix possible Thursday morning

We might start the day Thursday with light rain but at the same time we will have arctic air over Tennessee that will be dropping south. If the rain picks up this will cool the atmosphere rather quickly and allow for strong evaporative cooling. This process would create a mix of sleet/snow/rain between 9 a.m. and noon. We are very much on the edge of this setup so we could see about anything.

If the snow picks up, expect to see accumulation on grassy areas. The snow could become heavy at times before changing back to rain during the early afternoon hours.

Skies will rapidly clear overnight Thursday, allowing temperatures to fall into the 20s by daybreak Friday. Friday afternoon will be sunny but cool with high temperatures in middle to upper 40s. More sunshine will stick around for Saturday with more seasonal highs in the middle 50s. Even more rain showers will move in by Sunday afternoon. Next week will start off rainy with isolated thunderstorms on Monday.

The long-term temperature outlook is trending cooler for the end of February and the beginning of March.
