Police identify suspect, victim killed outside Boaz credit union

BOAZ, Ala. (WAFF) - The two men involved in a fatal Tuesday afternoon shooting outside a Boaz credit union have been identified.

Police identified 30-year-old Colton Craig McKinney of Crossville as the man who died in the shooting. First responders found McKinney outside the Family Security Credit Union off Highway 431 on Tuesday. McKinney was placed into an ambulance, but died from his injures en route to the hospital.

Police officers found 26-year-old Jossie Bowen in the credit union lobby. Police report Bowen had a 9 mm pistol in the back pocket of his pants. Officers arrested Bowen and transported him to the Marshall County Jail. He was charged with murder and placed on a bond of $200,000.

Investigators with the Boaz Police Department report Bowen’s sister was the ex-wife of Colton McKinney. Investigators believe Bowen and his sister planned to confront McKinney over a joint bank account.

Investigators are questioning witnesses who were in the parking lot when the shooting happened.
