Family of homeless man found outside Huntsville gas station believe he died in the cold
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville police are investigating after a body was found at a gas station. While police have not identified the man officially, his family told WAFF 48 News that he was 59-year-old David Vann.
His family said he was homeless with no place to go.
Police closed off the Vulcan gas station at the corner of Bob Wallace and Jordan Lane to investigate Tuesday morning.
Jennifer Vann, David’s sister-in-law, says he likely did not know about the shelters available. She also had no way to contact him as she is also homeless.
“I just seen him two days ago," said Vann. "I was with him, and I went to go look for him today when I saw all of that.”
As the cold season continues, the man’s sister-in-law urges people to look out for others. “Somebody should’ve found him. Maybe he was drinking somewhere or sitting on the side of the building and should’ve asked him if he needed to go somewhere warm," said Vann.
A spokesperson for the department initially said the body was found in a vehicle but later amended that information.
Police say the body was found in the parking lot of the gas station, and that they believe alcohol was a factor in the death.
Authorities don’t suspect foul play.
