HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Huntsville police have identified the bicyclist killed in a vehicle wreck Tuesday night.

Police identified him as 36-year-old Jose Zayas.

It happened at about 7 p.m. Tuesday on on Wall Triana Highway near Boeing Boulevard. That’s near Huntsville International Airport.

Police say the other vehicle was going southbound on Wall Triana Highway in the left lane and tried to pass another car in the right lane. The other car was aware of Zayas and moving slowly.

The driver merged into right lane after passing the cautious car, hitting Zayas.

Police say it is still a criminal investigation. They are waiting on toxicology reports.

Zayas was a member of the local bicycle group Alabama Wheelmen. The group says he was coming back from a ride when the accident happened.

Zayas’ funeral will be at 6 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory.
