HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Two hikers found themselves in trouble on Monte Sano Mountain Sunday afternoon.
The hikers needed help navigating the trail system when they got overheated and dehydrated.
Huntsville Fire & Rescue was called in to help. They used maps to find the hikers.
They were given plenty of water and checked out at the scene just to make sure they were OK.
“You have to drink water. You have to bring water with you. People come out not used to the trail system. This isn’t the city park. It’s mountainous area, people, take a bottle of water. You could go through 2 quarts of water on a two to three-hour hike,” said park ranger Brian Moore.
Rescue crews warn that if you’re going to be out in the extreme heat the next few days make sure you bring extra water with you and drink plenty leading up to any outdoor activities like hiking.
